Session 6 Workshop: Drowning in local government policy

Friday, July 24, 2026
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Details

Together, we will map the unexpected places where there are smart opportunities to weave drowning prevention into local government business-as-usual. This will be a highly interactive workshop with a focus on small-group work, dynamic discussions, rapid ideation, and short, sharp mini-pitches. The objective of the session is to identify opportunities to advance water safety in local government policy today. How can we position drowning prevention for the biggest impact? Where can we add water safety to existing initiatives? Who do we partner with to reach those most in need? What do we need to reframe to reinforce the benefits of water safety? Facilitated by Dan Graham, Curtin University *Note that this session forms part of a PhD research project and will be audio recorded. All contributions will remain anonymous; no individual will be identified in future research output. The Curtin University Human Ethics Committee has approved this study HREC-2026-003.
